MPlayer works in the beryl and compiz, and in the metacity too.
I thinks that do some uncompatiable codecs. But my friends haven't any problems with codecs.

UBUNTU: VLC crashes in the beryl and compiz
VLC works only in the Metacity. In the other window managers it crashed after flash displayed.
MPlayer works in the beryl and compiz, and in the metacity too.
I thinks that do some uncompatiable codecs. But my friends haven't any problems with codecs.

I'm having compiz/video playback problems too. This blog is the first google result when t/shooting. Doesn't give me much hope of a resolution :(
I have this problem too) Look: VLC - Preferences- Output modules- activate Advanced options - Video output module - change for " X11 video output". Must work)
